Self-confident
people have certain attributes that everyone admires. Lacking
self-confidence may result in becoming unsuccessful. We might
be inspired by self-confident people. The question now is
how to help our children build self-confidence? The good news
is that self-confidence can really be built on, and it is
achievable as long as you determine to carry things through.
Whenever we want to start a new project, the good thing to
start with should be observing. Look at your children’s
behavior, body language, way of speaking, and the words he
says. Once you have that data determine if your child is self-confident
or not. A self confidence person does what he thinks to be
correct even if others criticize him. He is also a risk taker.
In addition, he admits mistakes, and accepts compliments affably.
Even though your child is self-confident enough you can continue
working on self confidence by considering the following suggestions.
1. Work together. Get together with your family and write
a list of things your child has achieved. Everyone is good
at something. As you will be working on building on self-confidence,
avoid criticizing your child at that moment if any one of
you remembers one of your child’s incorrect behavior
or mistake. It is time to be proud of your child not to make
him feel bad.
2. List your child’s strengths. If you help your child
realize his strengths, he will be motivated to keep on building
on self-confidence. Teach your child to be thankful of what
he has. In addition, make another list considering his insecurities
so that you notice the weaknesses you will have to work on.
3. Be positive. Help your child disapprove negative self-talk
such as “I can`t do it” or “I’m silly”
Praise him whenever he is doing something. Talk to him about
the importance of believing in our capacities. Tell him that
at some point of our lives, we may lack something, but we
have to learn to deal with those moments and keep on going.
4. Establish one goal and move towards it. For instance, learning
to ride a bicycle. Set days and schedules for learning. Aide
your son or daughter to work on this goal until he or she
achieves it. Don’t forget that your motivation and your
help as well as your child‘s positive thoughts are very
important for him to acquire self-confidence.
5. Now set a bit bigger goals. For instance you can carry
out some outdoor activities like the lost treasure, or hill
walking. Some activities might be challenging for your children,
but they might also be rewarding when getting the treasure,
or arriving at the top of the hill. Remember that praising
is very important, but keep your child grounded. Do not get
him over-confident.
Helping our children develop their personality as well as
self-confidence in a safe and harmonious home will be beneficial
for achieving their happiness and success. |
